Alan Robert Grupy, born June 2, 1944 went to his heavenly reward on July 6, 2016.
Born in Summitt, NJ, Al was raised in NJ and became a printer for the then Newark Evening News and joined the Navy Reserves at age 16. At 18, he enlisted in the Navy and served his country as a radioman on the destroyer, The USS Blandy. His six years of service included being part of the Bay of Pigs, setting up communications' towers during the Vietnam War and being in the Color Guard on the steps of the Rotunda for the funeral of President John. F. Kennedy. He lived in Lyndhurst, NJ and worked as a Safety Inspector for Hoffman-LaRoche. In 1984, he and his wife moved to NC. He worked for the House of Raeford, Eagle Louvre Doors and the Fayetteville Observer. He enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of Stoney Point Fire Department since 1994. Al was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 years. His last position being an Assistant District Marshal. He never met a stranger and enjoyed finding a good story or joke related to any subject you happen to bring up.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley W. and Eileen F. Grupy, his sister, Mary Lynn Waters and niece, Julie Imperial. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 47 years, Camille M. Grupy, his sister Nancy Imperial (Robert), her daughter, Nikki Marlow (Philip) and grandniece, Gigi, his brother, David Grupy (companion Ade Wagenblast) and his children, Deven and Rachel Grupy. He is also survived by his niece, Kelly Parker (Jason) and nephew, Ken Waters, brother-in-law, Tony Brancaccio (Pam) and his children, Susan Brancaccio (Ben) and Wendy Spears (Bill).
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Council 8857, c/o the church, Cape Fear Cancer Center, 1638 Owen Dr, Fay. 28304 or Stoney Point Fire Dept. 7221 Stone Pt. Road, Fay. 28306.
