Carl West

Edwin West, 82, died Thursday, August 4, 2011. He was born December 4, 1928 in Laurens, SC to the late John Fulton and Mary Cox West.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Doris S. West, his parents, sister Virginia Willis and step-mother Minnie West.

He is survived by a son, carl West, Jr. and wife Donna of Boone, NC; daughter Patsi west D'alpe and husband Paul of Hope Mills; three granddaughters, Cameron Duck, Erin D'Alpe and Laurel Miller and a great granddaughter, River Laine Miller. He is also survived by three brothers, Fulton and wife Lucille, Robert, Ted and wife Sarah; one sister Linda West Byrd and husband Robert.

"Eddie" as he was affectionately known by family and friends grew up in the Hope Mills community and attended Hope Mills High School. He worked for Coble Dairy in advertising and later in sales for over 35 years. He was an avid swimmer and skier and enjoyed vacationing at North Carolina beaches. He was a member of the Rockfish Golf Club and spent many Wednesday afternoons playing golf with friends.

He was instrumental in bringing the Lions Club to the Hope Mills community and enjoyed participating in club functions, especially "Womanless Weddings". He was a member of the Hope Mills Congregational Church for over 64 years, serving as deacon and Sunday School superintendent.

Eddie's strength, courage and faith in fighting against lung disease will be remembered by his family and friends. He will always be our "Hero".
