Charles Austin

April 19, 1929 — October 20, 2013

Fayetteville, North Carolina

Charles Burton Austin, 84, of Fayetteville, NC, died Sunday, October 20, 2013.
Mr. Austin was born on April 19, 1929 in Mize, MS to the late John Grady Austin, Sr. and Edna Josephine Martin Austin.
Mr. Austin leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mary H. Austin; daughters, Susan Diane Webb and Pamela D. Huggins; brothers, Hilton Austin, Jack Austin, and John Austin, Jr.; sister, Judy Thornenbury; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mr.Austin was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

There are people that are men of few words, but that doesn't describe Charles Burton Austin. He lied about his age to get a 2-year enlistment in the Navy where he spent more than 3-years. Then he spent 23 plus years in the Army before becoming a Cumberland County (NC) Deputy Sheriff and rising to the position of Sergeant. After retiring from the Sheriff's Department, he spent several years as a Supervisor of Security at the Special Operations Command on Fort Bragg protecting sensitive Government Installations to include the Delta Force Compound.

He made it clear that he wanted all of his children and grandchildren to either become Police Officers, nurses or to join the military.

He truly enjoyed a cup of coffee and a biscuit from Hardee's early in the morning with his old timer's group. But most importantly, he was a good father and made up the time he missed with his two girls because of his military/ law enforcement commitments by spending time with his five grandchildren. He was so very affectionate with his eight great grandchildren.

He would make sure that regardless of the situation that his family was always taken care of. He loved to play his guitars, sing, flirt with all the ladies, but most of all he loved to play practical jokes.

His laugher, his wisdom, and his smile will be truly missed.
