Charles Alsbury Norton, affectionately known by all as “Uncle Charlie”, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024, at the age of 85.
Born January 25, 1938 in Halifax County, Charlie was the son of the late John Clem Norton and Alice Padgett Norton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by all of his many brothers and sisters.
Charlie is survived by his great niece, Peggy Miller and her husband Terry of Hope Mills; several great-great nieces and nephews; numerous great-great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Charlie honorably served his country for a brief time in the U.S. Army. He would eventually work at Black & Decker as an industrial mechanic for over 22 years before retiring. Being a lover of the outdoors, Charlie enjoyed camping, fishing, and golfing in his spare time. He could regularly be seen rooting for his favorite team, the Carolina Tarheels or his favorite NASCAR drivers, including the late Dale Earnhart. He was a devoted man of faith which he strengthened by attending LifePoint Church in Hope Mills.
Charlie deeply loved his family and would do anything for anybody whenever he was able. He will be greatly missed and forever cherished by everyone who knew and loved him.
