Charles Lynwood Thaggard, Sr., 93, passed away peacefully with family by his side on May 8, 2024. Born August 13, 1930, to Carl Thaggard and Ruth Fisher Thaggard, Charles was the oldest of four children. After graduating from Parkton High School, he attended Wake Forest and graduated in 1952 with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. Following graduation, Charles served in the Army, stationed at Ft. Eustis, Virginia. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by DuPont before returning to Fayetteville to enjoy a long sales and management career with Southern Resin.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Lillian Carver Thaggard; daughter Priscilla Glaskin, and brother Carl Thaggard. He is survived by his daughter Ginny Burcham and her husband Darren of Winston-Salem; son Charles Lynwood Thaggard, Jr., of Fayetteville; grandchildren: Sean Evans and his wife Candace of Wilmington; Anne Carver Burcham of Winston-Salem; Virginia Burcham of Wilmington; great-grandchildren: Jack and Layla Evans of Wilmington; brother Neil Thaggard of Greensboro; sister Connie Scott of Burlington; brother-in-law Warren Carver and his wife Cecilia of Tucson, AZ; and nieces and nephews, all of whom were special to him.
Known for his deep faith, wisdom, kindness, and integrity, Charles will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and friends. He was a charter member of Lake Lynn Baptist Church where, over many years, he served in deacon, teacher, and administrative positions. Charles cherished time with family and enjoyed his role as grandfather attending soccer games, swim meets, cross country meets, basketball games, and baseball games.
The family is very appreciative of the care he received at Hope Mills Retirement Center and from Healthkeeperz Hospice.
Charles will be honored at a graveside service Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey St. in Fayetteville.
