Charlotte Wood

Charlotte Ann Wood, 89 of Hope Mills, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

Charlotte was born November 12, 1932  in Cumberland County, NC to the late Martin and Bessie Ellis. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Judson L. Wood.

She is survived by her daughters, Ellis Wood, Emily Nadeau and husband Dennis; son, Bill Wood; and half brother, Charles Ellis and wife Mary.

Charlotte was a lifelong resident of Cumberland County and graduated from Hope Mills High School in 1952. After graduating she attended cosmetology school and was a hairdresser. Before long she met the love of her life, Judson, at Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church. They were married there on June 25, 1955. At the time of Judson’s passing in 2017, they had been married for almost 62 years.

After marrying, Charlotte gave up her career and took on the most important role as a loving wife and wonderful mother. After her children got older and were no longer in elementary school, Charlotte became a substitute teacher for Cumberland County Schools. In 1979, she became a teacher’s assistant at Elizabeth Cashwell Elementary School, until her retirement in 1993. Kids in her class would tell her that they wished she was their mother.

During retirement, Judson and Charlotte loved to travel. Many of their adventures were group tours by Christian Tours and they visited almost all fifty states. When not travelling, Charlotte loved cooking and baking. She was a wonderful cook and loved hosting family gatherings, bridal showers, baby showers, and many other celebrations.

Charlotte was a wonderful person who was known by many and loved by all, she will be greatly missed.
