Clark Gable Russ, 74, of Fayetteville passed away at 1:40 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was born May 30, 1936, in Elizabethtown, Bladen County, North Carolina, to George M. Russ and Maude King. He worked several years as a truck driver for Chemel Hatcheries and Currie Gas Company and then at Purolator for 20 years. He retired in May 1998 after working an additional eight years as a residential security guard for the Gates Four Home Owners Association.
Clark was a born-again Christian who loved his God, his wife and his family. He enjoyed meeting and talking to people and for several years he was lovingly called the "Mayor of Hardees" on Gillespie Street. His favorite activities were listening to Bluegrass Gospel music and watching NASCAR racing on TV. He touched many lives through daily phone calls to friends and family and was loved by the many who knew him.
Clark and his wife, Marie, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 30, 2010 just prior to his leaving this life to begin his new one in Heaven with his best friend, Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of the home; two daughters, Beverly Osborn of Wingate and Julie and husband Terry Hackett of Hillsborough; a brother, Milton of Dillon SC; one granddaughter, Kaitlyn; three grandsons, Jasper Quirk, Aaron Hackett and Adam Hackett; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
