David Peyton Spell 88, of Hope Mills passed away Monday, August 6, 2012 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Born February 21, 1924 in Roseboro, he is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Spell of the home; daughters, Susan Glancy and husband Butch of Hope Mills, Joyce Goins and husband Ricky of Hope Mills, Jill Koonce and husband Chris of Hope Mills; grandchildren Rick Glancy of Fuquay-Varina, Robbie Goins, Tonya Goins and Chris Goins and one great grandchild Ryan Jones, all of Hope Mills.
He served in the US Navy from 1944 -1946 as a gunner’s mate on the USS Pittsburgh. He was a member of Hope Mills United Methodist Church and the Lebanon Masonic Lodge. He retired after 37 Years from NC DOT as a Traffic Services Supervisor. He was also employed by the Crown Coliseum with security. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed traveling and spending time at the beach.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Hope Mills United Methodist Church. Burial to follow in Hope Mills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M., Wednesday night at Pinecrest Funeral & Cremation Services in Hope Mills.
