Donald Theodore Kalb, 75, of Fayetteville, passed away on May 31, 2016.
He was born on May 6, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Edmund and Doris Kalb. Mr. Kalb was an army veteran.
Because of his concern about the health and welfare of American Indians in Cumberland County, he was instrumental in the founding of the Cumberland County Association for Indian People, a non-profit organization, which has served and aided American Indians in Cumberland County for decades.
Mr. Kalb was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife, Vickie (Jean); and sons; Ronny and Mitchell.
Mr. Kalb loved his family and spent a lot of time with his children and granddaughter, Jaime. He was happy to attend every Grandparents' Day celebration, ballet recitals and softball games. He always brought Jaime a bouquet of roses to each of her performances. When she was born, he gave her an Indian name, "North Star." He said that the reason for the name, North Star, was that it was the brightest star and so was she.
Mr. Kalb was kind, easy to talk to, a good listener, and believed in hard work. He was a restaurant owner for most of his life.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter; Donna Brunson, granddaughter; Jaime Elena "North Star" Brunson, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Kalb.
A private memorial and burial service, with military honors, will be held at Sandhills Veteran's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Cape Fear Valley Hospice.
