Dr. James Holloway Askins (Ret.), of Fayetteville, passed away May 12, 2016 at the NC State Veterans Nursing Home after a prolonged illness.
Born March 5, 1936 in Lake City, SC, he was the son of the late Jamie and Hallie Askins.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee Medical School at Memphis, Dr. Askins' career spanned 40 years and included 8 years with the U.S. Army. He was awarded numerous citations including the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam. He spent most of his career as a partner at the Fayetteville Orthopedic Clinic and also volunteered with numerous local charitable organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Holly and Shelly; sons, James, Jr. and Chris (wife Kelly); grandchildren, James III, Jeremiah, Isabella, and Ryan; and brothers, David (wife D) and Richard (wife Gail).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the C.A.R.E. Clinic, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or other charity of your choice.
Dr. Askins will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
