Ernest Floyd

Ernest Eugene "Gene" Floyd, 66, of Hope Mills died Saturday, March 12, 2016.
He is survived by his wife of 32 wonderful years; Vonda Floyd; daughter, Melinda Reba Bennett of Fort Mills, SC; son, Chadwick Eugene Floyd of Wilmington; grandsons, Travis Scott Floyd and Jalin Michael Floyd; sisters, Brenda Coffey & husband Wayne and Sharon Garrison & husband Rick all of Waynesboro, VA; brothers, Gary Floyd & wife Doris and Mike Floyd all of Waynesboro, VA.
Mr. Floyd served 22 years in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division where he retired as First Sergeant. In addition, he also served 22 years with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, finally retiring as Sergeant "Mean Gene" of the Motor Patrol.
Gene was a people person and never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and restoring classic cars.
Gene was an active member of the Gray's Creek Church of God and considered it an honor to hold several positions within the church. His last words were "I love God".
