Ret) CSM Gale Lee Spangler, 78, of Raeford, NC passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.
Born February 24, 1938 in Frankfort, OH, he was the son of the late Edward Ray and Violet Miller Spangler.
Mr. Spangler served 24 years in the Army and was a Special Forces (Green Beret) who was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (7 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm-unit, Combat Infantryman Badge, Master parachutist Badge, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Civil Act Honor Medal-1st Class, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Legion of Merit Medal.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Etta Mae Hall-Spangler.
Beloved dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend is survived by two daughters, Glenda Spangler (Scott Strickler) and Donna Spangler; four grandchildren, Lindsey Campos Penniman (Mark Robbins-Penniman), John Spangler, Evan Storey, and Karleigh Spangler; and two brothers, Floyd Spangler and Douglas Spangler. Uncle Gale to some and Uncle Eddie to others, he also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Mr. Spangler was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all.
