Garland Wade Atkinson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully in his home on October 17, 2024 at the age of 74 with his wife by his side.
Garland was known for his kind, loving, caring and humorous personality but he is most known for being the best “storyteller” in the world! Garland lived a full and exciting life, and he loved sharing his stories. Whenever Garland said “lookey here” you knew you were in for a Garland story telling session.
Garland was a golfer and at times you couldn’t get him off the course. He loved watching sports just as much. He enjoyed spending time with his animals, in his backyard floating in the pool, redoing the backyard lighting, bird feeding and playing with the squirrels. He had a special love for music and on a beautiful day he would love to cruise around town listening to music with his “road dog” Buddy in his lap, of course.
Garland will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly.
Garland is preceded in death by his son Andy Atkinson, his mother Jean Averitte and his father JW Atkinson. He is survived by his wife Roseanne, his son Frank, his daughter Francesca, and his grandson Jack.
A celebration of life will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home on October 28th at 4pm. Visitation will be held from 3-4pm.
In honor of his final wishes, Garland will be transported back home to North Carolina to his final resting place next to his son Andy.
