George Washington Ratley, Jr. III, 53 of Fayetteville died Thursday August 16, 2012.




He was born July 15, 1959, in Cumberland County, to the late George Washington, II and Betty Smith Ratley.  He was a retired paint contractor.




Mr. Ratley is survived by his wife, Shelia Johnson Ratley of Fayetteville; two sons, George Washington Ratley, IV and fiancee Lauren Vance of Phenix City, AL and James Meeks and wife Peggy of Fayetteville; two sisters, Brenda Buie and Kay Bradshaw and husband Charles both of Fayetteville; two brothers, Donnie Ratley and Robert Ratley both of Hope Mills;  six grandchildren; Patrick Miller, Taylor Ratley and Emma Ratley all of Phenix City, AL; Christopher Durkin of Charlotte, Tyler Meeks and Travis Meeks both of Fayetteville; one great-grandchild Kendal Lee Durkin of Charlotte.




Mr. Ratley enjoyed singing and collecting antiques.




A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday Aug. 21, 2012, at Pinecrest Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel.  Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.




The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
