Gerlene Johnson

Gerlene Carter Johnson, 85 of Hope Mills, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021 in her home with family by her side.

Born in Dillon, SC, Gerlene was the daughter of the late Grady and Ruby Byrd Carter. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by several half sisters and brothers and great grandson, Easton.

Gerlene retired after 20 years as a Media Specialist at Hope Mills Middle School.

Gerlene is survived by her husband Allen Johnson; sons, Allen Rex Johnson and wife Debbie; Drake Emmanuel Johnson and wife Susan, and William Todd Johnson; brother, Grady Leo Carter; granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Webster and Kari Tyler Jester; grandsons, Clinton Drake Johnson, Cory Johnson, Lance Kestrel Johnson, and Andrew Grady Johnson; great grandchildren, Ava, Reid, Delaney, Cameron, Austin, Lennox, and Mia; and a host of other family and friends.

The family offers a special thanks to caregivers Dora and Marina from Home Instead Senior Care.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Cotton United Methodist Church in Hope Mills with services to immediately follow. Burial will be held in Gilmont Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Cotton UMC Building Fund, 4514 Mill St, Hope Mills, NC 28348.

Gerlene was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
