CW4 (RET) Howard M. Robertson, born December 31, 1929 in DeKalb, IL, died Monday, April 5, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Gertrude Robertson of DeKalb, IL, brothers, Robert and Harold Robertson, Gary McCabe, James Pierce, Wayne Carr and sisters, Victory Jackson and Betty Hough.
Mike is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jonnie Treadaway Robertson; sons, Alan Robertson and wife Debbie of Mt. Airy, Gary Robertson and wife Debbie of Hope Mills, daughters Pamela Sherman and husband Charles, and Kelly Robertson both of Fayetteville.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kriston, Heather, Amy, Julie, Theresa, Sarah, and eleven great grandchildren, Caleb, Mitch, Christina, chase, Caraline, Samuel, Michael, Bailey, Kaden, Andrew and Abigail; sisters, Grace Aglia, Sharon O'Bryan and Caryl Schoenberg.
Mike started his military service in the Navy at age seventeen. Enlisted in the army and served honorably for 27 years. He was a combat veteran having served two tours of duty in Vietnam and other contingency operation s and deployments throughout his career. He received the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (1st OLC), Meritorious service medal along with other awards. He was particularly proud of his Master Parachute Badge and maintaining jump status until retirement.
Mike was a good and loving husband, father, brother and friend who enjoyed woodworking, drawing and reading. We will miss him but are grateful for his peaceful return to God.
No formal visitation will be held and the family request no flowers be sent to the home or cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 46, 520 Johnson Street, Fayetteville, NC 28303 would be appreciated.
A brief graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 400 Murchison Road, Spring Lake, NC.
