Janie Chavis

Janie Cummings Chavis, 83, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in her home.

Born June 11, 1932 in Laurinburg, Janie was the daughter of the late Junio and Leola Williamson Cummings.

She was a member of Solid Rock United Pentecostal Church in Raeford. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her pound cakes, which everybody loved. Janie loved her family and her church, and enjoyed listening to Jimmy Swaggart.

Along with her parents, Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Owens "Sambo" Chavis, Sr.; sisters, Louise Edwards and Ruby Kennedy; and brothers, George Buck Cummings and Senior Cummings.

She is survived by her son, Oscar Owens "Buzzy" Chavis, Jr.; sister, Helen E. Cooper; brothers, James Cummings and Leon Cummings; and one granddaughter, Amy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Leon Cummings, for her son Buzzy, at 5966 Lakeway Dive, Fayetteville, NC 28304.

Janie will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
