Joan Marie Sessoms, 88 of Hope Mills, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021.
Born April 10, 1933 in Boston, MA, Joan is the daughter of the late Edna Lillian Dunn and George Frank Dunn. Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister, June Marilyn Morgan.
Joan is survived by her husband, Floyd Brady Sessoms; daughter, Kimberly Ann Coleman and husband David Wilson Coleman; grandchildren, David W. Coleman III, Brayden W. Coleman, and Emma Leigh Kyrsten Coleman; great granddaughter, Nevaeh Lynn Coleman; nieces, Suzanne Marie Morgan and Debe Morgan Dempsey; great nephews, Kevin C. Gray and Jack Reed Heckl; and great niece, Erin Gray.
Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She was the kind of woman who in the blink of an eye, would get up early to just head out the door to go fishing off the pier at the beach. Joan was the baker of many pound cakes that found themselves at many different places, such as the local police department or local bank where everyone knew Joan Sessoms. She always loved to write, whether it was poetry, recipes, or just letters consisting of pages and pages of the daily events of her family.
Joan loved her music. Even during her days of battling with dementia, whenever her favorite song would play, she would sing every word. She loved animals, and would pick up a stray in a minute, just to bring it home and give it the best life ever. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed finishing crossword puzzles and loved watching Hawaii 5-O and Lawrence Welk.
Her joyful laugh would quickly light up a room, letting everyone know she was there. Joan was a dominant force of nature and showed it. She loved he grandchildren and spoke proudly of her family. She was a spitfire, a firecracker, and a sassy woman who said what was on her mind.
And now, Joan Sessoms is at peace...
