John Leonard Church Jr., 61 of Hope Mills, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Cumberland County, he is the son of John Leonard Church, Sr. and Virginia Harrington Church. He is preceded in death by his father, and grandparents, Clyde and Zenia Church and William and Myrtle Harrington. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Church.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Connie Henderson Church of the home; four sons, Ryan Church, Timothy Davis, Josh Frazier and Matt Frazier; a grandson, Aydan Church; and mother, Virginia Church.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, ATV off roading, hiking, white water canoeing, and bowling. He loved putting together model trains, and had a room dedicated to displaying his work. He was a member of Hope Mills Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a talented machinist for 30 plus years and worked at Olivia Machine and Tool, and Machine Products of Fayetteville. John will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked memorials be made in his honor to the Cape Fear Friends of Cancer Center. Checks may be made payable to CFVH Foundation and mailed to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation, P. O. Box 87526, Fayetteville, NC 28304-9977. Memorial gifts may also be made online at www.cfvfoundation.org.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday July 19, 2024, at Pinecrest Funeral and Cremation Services, 4721 Dunrobin Drive, Hope Mills. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hope Mills Cemetery off Legion Road.
