John Edward Fairley, 63 of Laurel, MD formally of Laurel Hill, NC, went to be with the Lord July 10, 2011.
He was born December 21, 1947 in Marlboro County, South Carolina.
He joined the U.S. Army after high school in 1965. He served in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat as a firearms and explosives expert. After being discharged from the army in 1968, he moved to Maryland where he attended Bowie State University. There he studied Law Enforcement and acting. He became a member of the Screen Actors Guild. He performed on stage, screen, and television. His credits includes stage plays as "Hurry Sundown", movies like "The Green Mile", "Deep Impact" and "The Planet of the Apes". On television, he appeared in "The F.B.I. Files", "Homicide", "America's Most Wanted and "A Man Called Hawk". He also did voice overs and narrations for Uncle Ben's Rice, Bluecross/Blueshield, Food Lion, Social Security Benefits and Anti-Smoking Films.
His career also included semi-pro wrestling and boxing. As a Law Enforcement officer, his encounters included such people as Mike Tyson and the D.C. Sniper. He was also a music composer and writer.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ying Hua Jin of the home; his loving mother, Elease F. Monroe of Laurinburg, NC; a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Keaton of Raleigh, NC; a son, Edward Fairley of New Bern, NC; a brother, William H Fairley of Hope Mills, NC; 7 grandchildren, 3 nephews, 1 niece, 8 grandnephews, 2 grandnieces, 1 great grandniece, and several cousins and a host of friends.
