Julian F. Barnes, 86 of Hope Mills, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023 in Fayetteville.
Born February 26, 1937 in Cumberland County, Julian was the son of the late Hugh and Myrtle Collum Barnes. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Barnes and three brothers, Wayne, Norman, and Casey.
Julian is survived by his daughter, Debbi Sinclair and husband Harry; daughter, Lisa Melvin and husband Mark; two granddaughters, Brittany Gunyan and husband Peter, and Courtney Melvin; brother, Sam Barnes and wife Jennie; one great granddaughter on the way; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Julian honorably served over 22 years in the U.S. Navy before retiring as a Master Chief Gunner's Mate. He also served as a recruiter during his prestigious military career. After his time in the armed forces, Julian started a lengthy career at Kelly Springfield before retiring for a second time. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed working outside in his spare time. Julian also dedicated his time to being a Mason and Shriner, helping whenever he could.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and loved spending time with them all. Julian will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
