Lonni Evans

May 22, 1970 — September 24, 2013

Hope Mills, North Carolina

Lonni Kay Evans, 43, was called home to our Heavenly Father September 24, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.
Lonni Stortz, the youngest child of Bob and Jeanne Stortz, was born May 22, 1970, in Glendive, MT. She was raised on the family farm north of Lindsay where she loved the change of the seasons, all animals, being with her family, and a decade of 4-H. She attended Lindsay Elementary through eighth grade and Dawson County High School, graduating in 1988. Lonni continued her education at Dawson Community College and later completed her nursing degree at Miles City Community College in 1993. Throughout Lonni's adult life she continued her nursing career and lived in New York, Tennessee, Montana, and North Carolina, which was her present home.
Lonni married the love of her life, Army soldier, Shane Evans, June 28, 1996, and was proud to be a military wife. Their love blessed them with two beautiful children, Jeanie and Wyatt. Lonni was an amazing mother; their children were her greatest joy, and FAMILY was always her first priority.
Lonni was a phenomenal nurse whose coworkers say they looked to as a mentor. In various positions, she compassionately touched the lives of countless children in the newborn nursery and pediatric ICU, and the lives of soldiers returning to Ft. Bragg, NC, dealing with the scars of war. She was a caring and thoughtful friend and neighbor who enjoyed hosting regular gatherings and always took the time to listen to and help others.Lonni cherished her family and any precious time with them, family meals and daily prayers, and watching her children's activities. She enjoyed football (especially Notre Dame and Gray's Creek), going to the beach, gardening, cooking, flowers, fishing, music, Christmas, and treasured trips back to North Dakota and Montana to visit family and the farm. Lonni simply loved life and inspired all who knew her. Throughout her lengthy illness, she remained unbelievably strong and positive - beating the odds time after time - continually sharing her steadfast faith and belief in God's plan, while caring for others through her "Happy Friday" texts and by daily influencing the lives of all who knew her with her wonderful sense of humor and genuine wisdom.
Lonni will be deeply missed by her husband, Shane; children, Jeanie and Wyatt; father, Bob Stortz; father and mother-in-law, Mike and Marilyn Evans, Cawker City, KS, siblings, Laurie (Tim) Gibbs of Fallon, MT; Ted (Tarena) Stortz of Lindsay, MT; Lynn (Elton) Stickel of Fallon MT; LeAnne (Todd) Dufner of Glendive, MT; Lesli (Troy) Walters of Grenora, ND; Lisa (Tim) Quintus of Mandan, ND; brother-in-law Coy Kline of Butte, MT; sister-in-law Shannon (Ray) Bretthauer of Lincoln, NE; Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family and countless friends.Lonni was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanne Stortz, her stepmother Beverly Zinniel Stortz, and her stepsisters Lori Seti and Joey Kline.
