Cassandra “Lynn” Callaway, 53, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, passed away on May 17, 2024, at UNC Chapel Hill, North Carolina, after a battle with infection, which her body could not overcome.
Lynn Callaway was born on November 9, 1970, to Neda A. Biggs in Warner Robbins, Georgia and was raised by Neda and Eugene L. Biggs. While attending Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio in 1992, she met her spouse, Richard J. Callaway, whom she married shortly after on February 3, 1993. Lynn and Rick went on to have three beautiful children, Kirby A. Callaway, Teagan J. Callaway, and Brylee C. Callaway. Lynn raised her family with unconditional love and support for 33 years, proudly embodying the honor and hardship that comes with being a military spouse. Rick, Kirby, Teagan, Brylee, and her parents, Gene and Neda Biggs – along with the ten dogs and three cats she parented over the years – were her entire world. She exemplified the best qualities a mother, wife, sister, and daughter can have: thoughtful gift-giving and never-ending generosity, witty sense of humor, strength of spirit, and limitless faith and devotion.
The most important thing to Lynn was fostering a home for expansive love, development, and care, both for her family and visitors alike; everyone that met her immediately felt welcomed and embraced by her warm and joyful love. She maintained enthusiastic support for and involvement in her family’s achievements and adventures, specifically enjoying Kirby’s soccer and world travels, Teagan’s wrestling and acrobatics, and Brylee’s softball and love of animals. Lynn was unwaveringly supportive of her husband through the trials of a long and challenging military career, often single-handedly managing all aspects of the household while he was away. As an animal lover, she adored being surrounded by all of her pets (and grandpets), most of which were rescues. She loved reading and was never far from her Kindle, and enjoyed watching true crime dramas and playing puzzles and games on her iPad, but her favorite activity was spending time with her family, pets, and neighbors.
Lynn Callaway was preceded in death by one of the greatest loves of her life, her mother, Neda Biggs, who was waiting for her at Heaven’s door. At the age of 53, Lynn was taken from this world too soon. Lynn is survived by her husband: Rick Callaway; father: Gene Biggs; sisters: Denise Irvin and Kim Biggs (Browning); brother: Bryan Biggs; daughters: Kirby Callaway and Brylee Callaway (Stark); son: Teagan Callaway; son-in-law: Johnathan Stark; three dogs: MJ, George, and Reign; and three cats: Lucy, Piggy, and Stache. She also has extended family she cared for greatly, including mother-in-law Doris Huffman and husband Steve; brothers-in-law Jon Callaway and spouse Maria, and Robert Callaway and spouse Kristina, who she shared a special relationship with through the years; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks in lieu of flowers, to please make a donation to Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity, Critical Home Repair program, Project Beaver Dam Road to help a family of six in desperate need. Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity is an organization Lynn felt strongly about as she shared in her husband’s work in helping those in need.
