Marilyn Mclean

Mrs. Marilyn Smith McLean, the daughter of the late Murphy B. Smith and Maxine R. Smith, was born on Aug. 23, 1931 in Fayetteville, NC, and attended public schools in Cumberland County. She was a graduate of Fayetteville High School, and received an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from FTCC, and served as a teacher in the Head Start Program for many years in Cumberland County. At an early age, she made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ and has been a life long member of Green Springs Baptist Church in Parkton, NC. She served faithfully as Director of the Children's Choir, Sunday School Teacher, Church recording secretary, Harvest Day Committee, Pastor Search Committees, Policy and Procedures, and many other roles where she felt led to serve.

She was united in holy matrimony to Robert Lenn (Bobby) McLean on Sep. 9, 1950. This union was blessed with four children. Her beloved husband preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1992.

Mrs. McLean's favorite activities were growing and tending to many flowers on her porch and yard, especially the various colors of azaleas and camellias and spending time with the many family members of her extended family (especially the children). This included baking customized birthday cakes for the kids and wonderful meals for all to enjoy. She was well known for her prized lemon meringue and pecan pies. Her Christian life was exemplified by her unconditional love for all, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of those who knew her. In the early morning hours of Jan.21, 2019 with her love ones at her side, she was peacefully called up to receive her heavenly reward. She is survived by her loving sister, Elaine Smith Lawlor of Myrtle Beach, SC, and was preceded in death by her brothers, Dennis S. Smith and Max B. Smith Sr., who she both loved dearly.

Her remarkable and beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her children, Jerry and Barbara. McLean, Odessa, FL, Greg and Jeanette McLean, Hope Mills, NC, Clay and Wanda McLean, Hope Mills, NC, and Melanie McLean Davis, Hope Mills, NC; grandchildren, Brendon and Darcy McLean, Baltimore, MD, Jeff and Ashley LaFavors, Odessa, FL, Marcus McLean, Durham, NC, Matthew McLean, Hope Mills, NC, Drew and Ashley McLean, Hope Mills, NC, Cherokee McLean, Hope Mills, NC, Blake Rye, Hope Mills, NC, Will Davis, Hope Mills, NC, and Anna Davis, Hope Mills, NC; six beautiful great grandchildren; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins.
