Sunrise for Marlene Joyce Van Weelden Hiner Palmisano was Saturday, February 26, 1938 in Grand Haven, MI. Sunset for her was Sunday, December 15, 2013 in Hope Mills.
She is survived by her son, Marvin C. Hiner and wife Tisha; her daughter, Renee M. Faircloth and husband Gary and the love of her life, granddaughter Rebekka and step granddaughters, Lauren and Keira; step grandson, Brandon Faircloth, a brother, Gilbert Van Weelden and many nieces and nephews in Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Seymour and Arvalla Van Weelden. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Charles F. Hiner and Joseph P. Palmisano, and a brother, Marvin Van Weelden.
Marlene retired in 1988 from Civil Service at Fort Bragg, NC. She was an avid reader and loved knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the Fairy Godmothers and enjoyed making cancer hats for all. She also made hats and burial gowns for preemies and newborn hats, booties and blankets for Cape Fear Hospital and Womack Army Medical Center. She was a member of the Senior Roadrunner and Cross Creek Knitters Guild. She crocheted and knitted hats and scarves for Southview Baptist Church for their homeless program and she belonged to the R.S.V.P. (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). She volunteered 14 years in her daughter's classroom at Rockfish and Gallberry Farm Elementary Schools.
Marlene grew up on Lake Michigan. She always called it "her lake". She so enjoyed looking at the lighthouse on her lake, especially in the early morning when she was home. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 to 8 pm, Wednesday, December 18, 2013 with a special celebration of her life at 7:00 pm.
