Marvin Merritt

Marvin L. Merritt Sr., 70, of Fayetteville, entered eternal rest on Monday, March 2, 2015, in his home surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Robeson County, he is the son of Wesley and Della Merritt.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen; his sons, James Merritt and wife Emily of Fayetteville, Marvin Merritt Jr. and wife Kim of Summerville, S.C., Kevin Merritt and wife Andrea of Summerville, S.C., and Ernie Jacobson of Fayetteville; a daughter, Cindy Mangiboyat and husband Bernie of Fayetteville; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He met Mary Ellen Barefoot in 1963 and married his lifelong partner in 1966. Marvin retired from Public Works Commission in February 2012, after 20 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always quick witted with his endless joking and mockery. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and recently led the brigade in a Kickin' Cancer's Butt charity ride.
