Mary Merritt

Mary Ellen Merritt, age 72, of Fayetteville, went to be with the angels, peacefully, on February 28, 2021, in her home, surrounded by family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, James and wife Emily Merritt of Fayetteville, N.C., Marvin Jr. and wife Kim Merritt of Summerville, S.C., Kevin and wife Andrea Merritt of Summerville, SC, a daughter, Cindy and husband Bernie Mangiboyat of Fayetteville, N.C.; two brothers, John and William G. Barefoot, 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Merritt, Sr, her brother James “Buddy” Barefoot, her sister, Joanne Barefoot, and grandson, Joshua Merritt.

Mary was born August 28, 1948, in Fayetteville, NC to Bertie Ellen Lee and William James Barefoot. She met the love of her life, Marvin Lawrence Merritt, Sr in 1963 and they married in 1966. Together they had 4 children. She devoted her life to her family and had an enormous amount of love to give each and every person that came into her life.  She had a newfound love to travel in her later years and brought so much joy to those who were with her.  Her sassy attitude and spunk for life kept her going through many physical ailments.  She was an angel on earth and now she has her wings.
