Born in Christian County, KY. He is the son of the late John Robert and Margaret Eck Staples.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Staples of the home; 2 daughters, Christina Antcliff & husband Marcus of MI and Melissa Parrish of Hope Mills; 2 sons, Mike Parrish and Michael Staples both of Hope Mills; 5 sisters, Ursula Moesley of Fayetteville, Ruth Busby of Southern Pines, Bernice Tyler of Fayetteville, Judy Boykin of Grays Creek and Debbie Uyeda of Columbia, SC; 3 brothers, Hamilton Staples of Hope Mills, Butch Staples and John Staples both of Fayetteville.
