Mrs. Myra Virginia Thompson Hornbaker, 90 of Fayetteville, NC went to be with the Lord from her home on July 6, 2012.
Mrs. Hornbaker was born in Washington, D. C. on January 27, 1922 to Myron Burnam Thompson and Prudence Berry Jones Thompson. After graduating from Washington and Lee High School, Arlington, VA and Strayer Business College, she worked for the FBI, IRS, Department of Defense and U S. Tax Court and retired to Fayetteville near her son, Tom. In 1952, she served as an administrative assistant to the US General Staff in Paris, France laying ground work for the establishing of the NATO agreements.
Mrs. Hornbaker faithfully served the Lord as an active member of Baptist congregations in Fairfax County, VA and Fayetteville, NC. She served as pianist and organist from 12 years of age until she was 89 at churches in Louisiana, North Carolina, and Virginia.
Mrs. Hornbaker is survived by her daughter, Joyce Ann Coryell Hedrick (Don) of Harrisonburg, VA; twin sons, Donald Edward Coryell, II (Susan) of Smith Mountain Lake, VA and Thompson Osa Coryell (Linda) of Fayetteville, NC; a brother, Joseph Edmund Wayne Thompson (Mary) of Rochelle, VA: eight grandchildren, Christina Hedrick & husband Paul Sweeney of Harrisburg, VA, Timothy Hedrick & wife Janice of Waterloo, Ontario, Ted Coryell & wife Jeannie of Chesterfield, VA, Heidi Williams & husband Larry of Clemson, SC, Derek Coryell & wife Valerie of Honolula, HA, Jeffrey Coryell & wife Beth of Naples, FL, Matthew Coryell of Fayetteville, Marcus Coryell & wife Tina of Fayetteville, Michelle Cameron of Charlotte; twelve great grandchildren , Jemma Hedrick-Sweeney of Harrisburg, PA, Payton Hedreick-Sweeney of Harrisburg, PA, Tessa Hedrick of Waterloo, Ontario, Willem Hedrick of Waterloo, Ontario, Shannon Coryell of Chesterfield, VA, Holly Coryell of Chesterfield, VA, Jack Coryell of Chesterfield, VA, Ashby Williams of Clemson, SC, Lizah Williams of Clemson, SC, Verily Coryell of Honolulu, HA, Joshua Coryell of Fayetteville and Julienne Coryell of Fayetteville .
Services will be Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Pinecrest Funeral & Cremation Services, in Hope Mills, NC with family visitation at 2 pm and memorial service at 3 pm. Graveside services for the family will be at Andrews Chapel, Leesburg Pike, Vienna, VA at a later date.
