Mrs. Myrtle Gerline "Gerri" Smith Hendrix, 63, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014.

She was born December 15, 1950, in Columbus County, to the late Oscar Low and Myrtle Parker Smith.

Gerri graduated in 1969 from Whiteville High School. She worked for the FBI starting June 16, 1969 until May 1971. She also worked for Fayetteville Cumberland County Crime Scene as an investigator and was the first female CSI in the state of North Carolina. She retired from civil service after 30 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Martin "Jim" Hendrix; stepsons, Martin Hendrix III, L. Randy Hendrix and G. Paul Hendrix; a sister, Thetus Ransom; a brother, Carlis Smith; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday night, March 28, 2014, at Pinecrest Funeral and Cremation Services on Dunrobin Drive in Hope Mills.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Faymont Baptist Church on Cumberland Road, in Fayetteville. Burial will be at 2:45 p.m. in Benevolent Cemetery, on Highway 131 in Clarkton.

Gerri will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
