Mrs. Nancy Louise Dever, 75, of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018 in her home surrounded by family.
Born April 10, 1943 in Lumberton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy Sports-Averitt and Johnny Sports. Nancy was born blind and remained so until the age of 3 when the Lord healed her vision. She was only able to see shadows however her vision progressively became better as she grew. While attending the Raleigh State School for the blind, Nancy met and found Jesus Christ at the age of 12 and accepted him as her Lord and Savior and has been a devout Christian since. She spent the rest of her life serving the lord, as well as serving other's including taking care of the sick and elderly. Nancy earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Memphis in 1989 and went on to become a teacher for Cumberland County Schools.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband, David Dever of Fayetteville; three daughters; Darlene Denise Dianaty (Hamid) of Fuquay Varina, Deloris Dee Dever of Fayetteville, and Deborah Diane Reding (David) of Fayetteville; 6 grandchildren, David Dale Dever II (Andrea), Christina Marie Slocum (John), Kyria Alysa Phillips (Donald), Noel Alexander Reding, Joseph Lee Connell, Graham Mehrzad Dianaty; 4 great grandchildren, Morgan Haley Coleman, Isabella Rose Dever, Rachel Elizabeth Louise Slocum, and David Dale Dever III; son-in-law, Clint Wayne Connell; and her puppy, Honey Bun.
Nancy is preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Dell Connell; mother Dorothy Sports-Averitt; step-father, Jack Averitt; father Johnny Sports; sister, Shirley Levi; and brothers, John W. Sports and George W. Sports.
Nancy enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting and spending time with her family and attending church. The thing that brought her the most joy was playing the piano for her church, Jesus First. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
