Robert James Bensley , 86, of Hope Mills, formally of New York, died April 7, 2013, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Born in Binghamton, NY, he is the son of John and Marian Bensley. He is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Dwight Bensley and sister-in-law, Betty Bensley
He is survived by a daughter; Deborah & husband Charles Hunter of Hope Mills; grandchildren, Lauren & Erin Hunter of Hope Mills; nephews, James, Mark, & Alan Bensley; niece, Karen Dunn and their children.
Mr. Bensley is a World War II veteran, and served in the US Marine Corp. He attended Manna Church in Hope Mills. He retired from Sage Supply in Johnson City, NY. Robert never met a stranger. He was best known to his friends as Uncle Bobby. A member of the "Rat Pack" he enjoyed snow skiing with his friends. He had a servant's heart and looked after his family and neighbors. He enjoyed walking his grand dogs, spending time outdoors and doing yard work. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Honor Flight Network. Donations will help transport veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials.
