Robert "Bob" James Pinsky, 70, of Hope Mills, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 at his home.
Bob was born in Hartford, Ct., on July 13, 1945 to Charles and Edith Pinsky. The son of immigrants from Russia, Bob was a loyal patriot to the United States serving as a volunteer in the Vietnam War engaging in numerous direct combat actions in support of the United States and in defense of his fellow military comrades. For his gallantry, he earned the Bronze Star while fighting in Vietnam. He devoted a total of twenty years of his life to the U.S. Army retiring in 1985 at the rank of Sergeant First Class, and as a member of the U.S. Army's elite 5th Special Forces. Despite his retirement, he continued to serve his country and his military brothers and sisters with vigor as an active member of American Legion Post 32 serving as their senior vice commander, and with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10630. As a member of the Hope Mills Veterans Affairs Committee, he was instrumental in bringing honor to the Gold Star Mothers by having their flag flown at the veteran's memorial in Hope Mills, N.C.
Bob was not only a hero to his country, but to his family as well. He was a loving husband and father. In fact, his heart was so large he was able to love two families during his lifetime. His first wife, Martha Pinsky, passed away in 1993. From that marriage he is survived by his son, James Gregory Pinsky and his two adopted children, Dewayne Pinsky and Paula Shiver. He was able to remarry in 1998 and is survived by his wife, Linda Pinsky, and his stepchildren, Jennifer Halstead and Michael Halstead. He was a warm, compassionate man who continuously fought for the rights and memories of others who served and were impacted by those who served our country through military service. As such, in and out of uniform, he will always be remembered as a warrior and even in death continues to inspire greatness from all who know and will know him.
