Robert West

Robert Harold "Bobby" West, Sr., 83, of Hope Mills, died March 21, 2014 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Born in Laurens County, South Carolina, he is the son of John Fulton West and Mary Cox West. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Emily Deaver West; a son, Robert H. West, Jr.; a sister, Virginia Willis; and a brother, Edwin West.

He is survived by one daughter, Connie Riley and husband George; one son, David West and wife Erica; one sister, Linda Byrd and husband Robert; two brothers, Fulton West and wife Lucille and Ted West and wife Sarah, all of Hope Mills; four grandchildren, Amanda Freeman, Robert Santee, Haleigh & Jack West; four great grandchildren, Ryan & Nikalas Freeman and Koleman & Tyler Santee.

Mr. West graduated from Hope Mills High School and was a star athlete. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He worked as an Engineer with Aberdeen Rockfish Railroad and retired after 50 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
