Roland Schmidt

Mr. Roland Hilton Schmidt 88 of Hope Mills died Friday, December 7, 2012.



He was born June 6, 1924 to the late William August and Louise Rolf Schmidt.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Thames Schmidt.



Mr. Schmidt retired from the U.S. Army where he served as a paratrooper and a member of the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II and The Korean War.

He was also retired from Black & Decker.



He was on the last Flight of Honor for 2012.



A memorial  service will be held Tuesday December 11 at 2:00 p. m. at Hope Mills United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Dennis Sheppard.  The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church Family Life Center.  A private graveside service will be held Thursday Dec. 13 at 10:00 a. m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.



He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Wynne & husband Bruce of Bahama, NC; a son, Bill Schmidt & wife Sylvia of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Jennifer Harrenstein & husband Matt, Brad Wynne and Jason Schmidt & wife (Sarah);  great grandchildren, Jacob and Madeline Harrenstein; 4 sisters, Dorothy Wolfgram & husband Lorrie of St. Paul, MN, Erna Schultz of MN, Martha Possehl of CT and Bernice Otte of MN; sister-in-law Patsy Thames of Fayetteville.



In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Hope Mills United Methodist Church 4955 Legion Road Hope Mills, NC 28348.
