Rufus Clayton Horne, Jr.

Mr. Rufus Horne Jr., passed away in his home on July 12, 2024. Rufus was born on June 22, 1967, to Rufus Clayton Jr. and Sylvia Strange in Fayetteville, N.C. 

Rufus owned Rufus Horne Jr. Heating & AC. He loved his work for which he made lasting friendships in the community. 

Rufus was also a member of many different hunting clubs where he spent many late nights and early mornings doing what he loved. He had many coon dogs and did coon hunting at clubs as a member. Rufus never missed Mule Days in Benson! He was there every year.

Rufus was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, tending to his farm animals and working on his tractors. As much as Rufus loved the outdoors, he loved sharing his interest with his Grandson, Michael Clayton Warga even more. He taught him how to grow his own garden as well as care for farm animals. Rufus loved all his grandchildren deeply and never missed a chance to show his support.

Rufus was preceded in death by his beloved father, Rufus Horne Clayton Sr. He is survived by his mother, Sylvia Strange of Fayetteville, N.C; his sister, Kathy McPhail of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter, Brooke Horne, her husband, Matt Warga, and their children Isabella Warga and Michael Warga, of Gray’s Creek N.C.; his daughter, Erica Forler, her husband Shane Forler, and their son, Connor Forler of Wilmington, N.C. 

Rufus’ spirit is a testament to strength and love. Even at the end, he always found a way to enjoy nature and his family. 

Celebration of life services will be held Friday July 19th at Jesus First Church, 7467 Camden Road, Fayetteville, N.C., 28306. Visitation at 1pm and services at 2pm.
