After a courageous battle with Alzheimer's, Thomas "Axle" Earl Trogdon, 62, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife at the Veterans Affair Hospital on March 14, 2016.
Born at Cape Fear, he was the son of Herman Edward "Whitey" Trogdon and Iva Mae Sessoms Trogdon. Tom graduated from 71st High School, joined the Fayetteville Fire Department, and later entered military service as a United States Air Force fire fighter. Tom served around the world during his career, including Panama during Just Cause and Egypt during Desert Storm. He retired from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas in 1997.
Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years, Charlotte Atchley Trogdon; his son Timothy and wife Donna, and grandchildren Thomas, Patrick, Tiernan and Kylie; his son Matthew and grandson Sean Trogdon; his brother Larry Trogdon and wife Terri; and his supportive sisters-in-law Lori Atchley, Shari Manass, and Sheila Lancaster.
