Tolar James "T.J." Melvin Jr., 74, of Hope Mills died Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
He was born Nov. 21, 1937, in Sampson County, to the late Tolar James Melvin and Alma Thornton Jackson. He was retired from Kelly-Springfield and was a Bassmaster member of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tolar James Melvin and Alma Thornton Jackson; and sisters, Shirley Naylor, Diana Tew, Allena Edge and Eldrene Carter; brothers, R. B. Spell, Maurice Spell, Williford Spell, Donnie Spell and Audie Spell.
Mr. Melvin is survived by his wife, Faye P. Melvin; daughters, Tina and husband Bryan McLaurin and Susan and husband Scott McLaurin; son, Tolar James "J.R." Melvin lll and wife Tina; brothers, Burnice Melvin, Jerry Melvin, A.E. Spell, Elbert Spell, Welton Spell and Tonnie Spell; sisters, Brenda Hall and Olarease Holloway; grandchildren, Crystal Justice and husband Kevin, Patrick McLaurin and Zachary McLaurin; and great-grandchildren, Auston Justice and Braydin Justice.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Pinecrest Funeral & Cremation Services of Hope Mills, with the Rev. Michael Preddy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Piney Green.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9, Monday, June 25, 2012, at Pinecrest Funeral Services, 4721 Dunrobin Drive in Hope Mills.
