It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon Lee Richardson (Rich) announces his passing. Vernon was born 28 July 1936 in Wilson, N.C. and left this earth Monday night 10 August 2015 at the age of 79. He was a veteran of the National Guard of N.C., the U.S. Army Reserve and the U.S. Army.
Vernon was a prince and a fighter and I know his songs of the pain and beauty in the world will fill many people with the incredible joy he felt for life. He was the sweetest most compassionate man who had a since of humor and presence that radiated thru everyone who had the honor of having known him. In his last years he faced an uphill battle against the tormenting afflictions of Alzheimer's yet he remained pleased with those who surrounded him by exhibiting the courage and strength that we all came to adore. Even with the pain that he suffered he still managed to laugh and put a smile on our faces as he did not want us to be sad for him, rather he wanted us to be filled with joy and love of life as he always was. Long live the beauty that comes down, through and onto all of us. We love you Vernon and will forever cherish your memory in our hearts and minds.
Vernon is survived by his wife Teresa Goosley, Sister Mary Francis Cannon, Mother-in-law Joyce Goosley and dear friend William Martin. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in Vernon's name to the Alzheimer's Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter 3739 National Drive, Suite 110 Raleigh, NC 27612 in hopes that a cure will be found to heal those who are yet to face the imprisonment of such a devastating disease.
