Virginia Koonce

Mrs. Virginia Calhoun Koonce, 89, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012.



A funeral service will be held Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Highland Baptist Church in Hope Mills conducted by the Rev. Mike Boarts. A family visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church, preceding the funeral. Interment will follow at Adcock Cemetery in Hope Mills.



She was a loving mother, wife, homemaker and friend. She was a lifetime member of the State Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary, lifetime member of the Cumberland Road Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a lifetime member of Highland Baptist Church.



Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold J. Koonce, former fire chief of Cumberland Road Volunteer Fire Department and former fire marshal of Cumberland County. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Evelyn Woodell Calhoun of Hope Mills.



Among those mourning her loss are children, Arnold Larry Koonce and wife Annette, and Judy Koonce Lloyd and husband Phil; sister, Ida Horner; grandchildren, Christy Koonce Jarrell and husband Joey, Joely S. Koonce, Jennifer C. Lloyd and Shelley Lloyd Barnette and husband Braxton; nieces, Brenda S. Dix and Harriet E. Horner; and five great-grandchildren.



In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made in the memory of Virginia, to the Joy Sunday school class of Highland Baptist Church, P.O. Box 609, Hope Mills, NC 28348.
