William Odom

William "Carey" Odom, Jr., 51 of Hope Mills, passed away at Duke Medical Center, on December 25, 2017.

Born in Robeson County, he is the son of William Carey Odom, and Rosemary Raybon Conner. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Mary Raybon and Hoyt and Opal Odom.

He is survived by his devoted wife of eight years, Karen Shelhamer Odom; a son, Carlin Odom; his parents, William Odom and wife Margaret of Charlotte and Rosemary Conner of Shelby; a sister, Mandi Massey and husband Michael of Charlotte; two brothers, Christopher Holder and wife Hope of Bladenboro and Garon Odom of Charlotte; and one aunt, Nancy Jackson and husband Terry of Hope Mills. He is also survived by his in-laws, Gene Shelhamer and Evelyn of Pennsylvania; his previous wife, Tracey Odom of Clinton; sister-in-laws, Beverly Kennedy, Paula Ganoe and Amy Shelhamer; one brother-in-law, Eugene Shelhamer; a step-father, Sherrill Holder and wife Myrtle of St. Pauls, and many other family members.

Carey loved to read, sing and write poetry and music. He enjoyed watching UNC play basketball and Dallas Cowboys play football. For many years Carey collected Bald Eagles. He is now soaring with them and will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
