William Owensby Ii

William Thomas “Bill” Owensby II, son of the late Paul Thomas and Mary Dixie Owensby, died Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the age of 92.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Ida Evangeline “Vange” Owensby and daughter, Patricia Owensby.

Bill is survived by his son, Paul Owensby (Connie) of Fayetteville, NC; daughter, Mary Owensby (Steve Perry) of Cincinnati, OH; and grandson, William Thomas Owensby, III of Raleigh, NC.

Bill was born in Cabarrus County, NC on December 22, 1928. While serving in the army he met and married Vange, the love of his life, in Colorado Springs, CO. After he had a tour of service in the Korean War, they moved to North Carolina where they raised their three children and lived happily for 67 years. Bill retired from the NC State Attorney General’s Office. He loved music and played his trumpet in numerous bands over the years. Bill and Vange enjoyed cruising and volunteering together for church ministries and favorite charities. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was a true Christian gentleman who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends after the mass before leaving to attend the 12:00 noon burial service at Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery.
